Integrated webcam and printer not working

I am new to Ubuntu and so far I am enjoying it a lot, but I ran into some problems regarding my integrated webcam and printer.

I am running Ubuntu 12.10 on a Lenovo B575 laptop. My integrated webcam does not seem to work, I've tried to make it work on Cheese and other apps that I could find in the software centre and it just will not recognize it.

My printer is an HP deskjet F4435 and Ubuntu recognizes it and everything and the first time I print on it after a fresh reboot, it prints exactly half of the first line of the document and then halts. It says that filter failed when this happens.

Any ideas on how to fix these problems?

Well I managed to get my webcam to work and my printer seems to work now, but it only works when I plug it into one usb port on my laptop. It is also an sata port as well as a usb port. All other regular usb ports do not work for some reason. Any ideas as to why this is?
