Thanks. I wonder if there is any way we can help them. Maybe donate some cash to help pay for the hardware?

Hope it comes back soon!
They probably will. Servers take a while to configure for gaming.
This surely is a good idea, they've always had a hard time to reach their fund raiser goals to pay their server costs. Many users, few contributors.
According to the source code of their About page they accept donations by Paypal to
The last thing I heard of them was on Dec, where I was told that "by now we have a new server and files are copied to it" and that they need yet to make sure everything works as it used to be.Code:lamego.pinto [AT] gmail.com
I'm sure more volunteers would also be welcome. They have a Launchpad team where anyone with a Launchpad account can apply for membership (which would also allow you to subscribe to their mailing list). There's also #getdeb on the Freenode IRC network which is also available via webchat (but please don't pester them about when the site will be back).
For people interested in the code, there are these Github repositories.

SourceAfter the server crash where also the GetDeb and PlayDeb database was lost and given the fact that GetDeb and PlayDeb now have too many packages to be handled as a one-man-project I decided to discontinue GetDeb and PlayDeb.
In the last years I have spent so many hours in the project that now it is just too much for me to maintain beside my usual job.
If you can read this text, I would like to thanking for your great work in last years. You helped a lot of people in situations when some games weren't in official repositories and them compilation was complicated.
Thanks and I wish you good luck!
