Turn volume up to 11?

I'm on a laptop with built-in volume buttons, and they can raise the volume between 0% and 100%. But, in the sound settings on gnome-control-center, I can raise it above 100%.

Is there a way I can just use my volume buttons, or a custom keyboard shortcut to raise it higher than 100%?

the over 100%, I believe, is just a software amp.
