    Re: Wacom tablet kernel issues

A quick search of the Ubuntu packages doesn't look hopeful.

Best I can find on your topic is: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2017563 Which didn't get far.

Now apparently you can really get in the weeds: https://groups.google.com/forum/?fro...al/PPQFpC7mYzk That one is making my eyes glaze over. A little background on the chrome kernel: http://www.chromium.org/chromium-os/...mium-os-kernel

So you need to contact the Chromebook/Chromium OS folks on how to install a kernel header so you can compile a kernel module/driver. There must be a forum somewhere. It would be sweet if they had a package repository you could just point apt-get to.

    Re: Wacom tablet kernel issues

Actually thinking about it a bit more the 3.4 kernel should be good enough for your tablet if it is a third generation BambooPT. What tablet do you have anyway? Unless the Chrome kernel doesn't include the wacom.ko.

What do you see when you run in a terminal?
    Code:
    lsmod | grep wacom
In other words is the Wacom kernel driver/module wacom.ko in lsmod (list modules) output?

Maybe it is just a configuration issue in xorg.conf.d? If you see wacom in the output of lsmod what is the output of?
    Code:
    xinput list

    and

    xsetwacom -V

What do you think about this? I'm torrenting it right now, just to give it a shot.

From the "lsmod" it does nothing, at least form a regular terminal. It just goes to the next line for input.

From the second things you said:

    Code:
    ser@cr-48-ubuntu:~$ xinput list
⎡ Virtual core pointer id=2	[master pointer (3)]
⎜ ↳ Virtual core XTEST pointer id=4	[slave pointer (2)]
    ⎜ ↳ SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad id=11	[slave pointer (2)]
⎣ Virtual core keyboard id=3	[master keyboard (2)]
↳ Virtual core XTEST keyboard id=5	[slave keyboard (3)]
        ↳ Power Button id=6	[slave keyboard (3)]
        ↳ Video Bus id=7	[slave keyboard (3)]

Don't know about that Chrome version. Does it say something about kernel module support or Wacom support?

From the "lsmod" it does nothing, at least form a regular terminal. It just goes to the next line for input.
Just run lsmod without the grep stuff. Still no output? If so it appears that Chrome OS doesn't anticipate you doing anything with kernel modules. All Ubuntu releases have lsmod installed by default I think. You'll have to see if it allows you to get it by installing the package it is in:
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install module-init-tools
When you ran xinput list did you have the tablet plugged in?

    Re: Wacom tablet kernel issues

    After running apt-get one.
    Code:
    user@cr-48-ubuntu:~$ sudo apt-get install module-init-tools
    [sudo] password for user:
    Reading package lists... Done
    Building dependency tree
    Reading state information... Done
module-init-tools is already the newest version.
The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required:
      libaccess-bridge-java-jni libaccess-bridge-java
Use 'apt-get autoremove' to remove them.

    user@cr-48-ubuntu:~$
    Xinput with board plugged in:
    Code:
⎡ Virtual core pointer id=2	[master pointer (3)]
⎜ ↳ Virtual core XTEST pointer id=4	[slave pointer (2)]
    ⎜ ↳ SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad id=11	[slave pointer (2)]
⎣ Virtual core keyboard id=3	[master keyboard (2)]
↳ Virtual core XTEST keyboard id=5	[slave keyboard (3)]
        ↳ Power Button id=6	[slave keyboard (3)]
        ↳ Video Bus id=7	[slave keyboard (3)]
        ↳ Power Button id=8	[slave keyboard (3)]
        ↳ Sleep Button id=9	[slave keyboard (3)]
↳ AT Translated Set 2 keyboard id=10	[slave keyboard (3)]
    user@cr-48-ubuntu:~$
Don't believe it changed. That's what the whole idea is, it doesn't even identify it.

    Re: Wacom tablet kernel issues

Yes but do you see any output when you just run:
    Code:
    lsmod
in a terminal? The wacom.ko just may not be autoloading.

Ah there you go. Don't do anything and I'll post some instructions in this post.

You should have a file in /etc called modules. If there is a wacom.ko module available we can force it to auto-load by adding it to the modules file. So open it with gedit:
    gksudo gedit /etc/modules
You might see several modules already listed. At the bottom of the list add wacom. Save close and then reboot. Now see if wacom shows in lsmod and what happens now with xinput list.

    Re: Wacom tablet kernel issues

Just to be clear. When I ran it, this came up:

    Code:
    # /etc/modules: kernel modules to load at boot time.
    #
    # This file contains the names of kernel modules that should be loaded
    # at boot time, one per line. Lines beginning with "#" are ignored.

    lp
So just put Wacom underneath lp?
