I want to add some of my own created folders to the Places menu. How can I do this?

If you start nautilus and simply drag a folder to where all the other "places" folders are in the lefthand pane, it will add that folder to the places menu.
Don't try to make something "fast" until you are able to quantify "slow".

Thanks for the tip this came in handy and wasn't IMHO very intuitive...so I owe Linja an hour. Thx

Re: How can I edit Places menu?

Thankyou. I have to say, this is massively unintuitive! On the sidebar if you drag into the Places area then files/dirs are actually moved without warning. If you drag to the bookmarks area below that then things are inserted into that list only. Then when you open the Places toolbar menu - there are the new bookmarks mixed with the Places! Hmm.

Well, I have what I want but "Mum and Dad" users won't get this.

    Thanks again.

"Places" isn't well-defined, in any OS. On Vista I had to hack the registry to change what appeared on its 'places'. On the other hand, the idea of adding a bookmark seems perfectly obvious to me.

Everybody's "mom and dad" user is different. There's only so much gnome can do.
