Three days ago, my laptop fell. It was still running and didn't think of anything. Next morning, it was shut off. When I tried to boot it up, Windows 7 gave me this:

A disk read error occurred Press Ctrl + Alt + Del to restart.
Around in circles I went, until I decided to open her up to make sure everything was plugged in. Sure enough, same message. So, my friend told me to install Ubuntu side-by-side to see if I can fix it.

When I went to install it, it would fail and give me a message, something about "third party." I didn't write it down.

So I ran the Disk SMART Tests and it would tell me it would fail, but the threshold was not exceeded. So I now just ran GSmartControl, which it tells me that my HDD is fine, but has this under Attributes:

It specifically has a problem with ID # 5, 196, 197.

I know I have to get a new one, as this one is 7 years old, but i don't have the cash. I just need this one to last for another 2 months, at most.

So now, Windows has been wiped off of my hard drive and what I would like to do is just partition a portion of the hard drive to Ubuntu.

I was thinking 30gb Ubuntu, 10gb Swap (I would mark it as /swap, rest (190gb left) as storage. Reason being is to avoid the broken sectors, if I can pin it down, unless I can repair those sections in "Try It" mode.
