I use the default install of OpenOffice that came with 10.04 LTS, and on my Macs I use the latest version of LibreOffice. Keep everything synced up with Dropbox, been really happy so far that I have not had any compatibility issues with this now ancient version of OpenOffice and LibreOffice.

MS Office is nicer than the alternatives, but not nice enough to make me use Windows at home. For me, the killer Office App is Visio. Very professional.

But to be honest, every office suite I've used has caused extreme frustration, especially at crunch time. Using some like LaTeX probably makes much more sense.

    None!

If I need to write something down I just use a text editor. Word processors and other office suite software do horrible stuff...

LibreOffice with English (British), French (French) language dictionaries.

Upgraded from OpenOffice. The WordPro import feature in LibreOffice means I can junk the old windows XP system.

Libre Office works perfectly for me. Printed or displayed, it can open up any Office-formatted files that get thrown at it, and make them perform just as they should.

    EXCEPT:

It doesn't work in the other direction. At work I have to submit files in Office 10 format. Invariably Office sabotages the format of files created from Libre Office and garbles them. I do better with saving them in Office 2003 format and having them opened in compatibility mode, but our management doesn't want to do it that way.

Feels like Netscape and Word Perfect dirty tricks all over again.

Google Docs. Nice and professional, and I can access my documents from anywhere, work on them from any device, and it causes alot less headache than syncing things with say, Ubuntu One, Dropbox, etc...

    LibreOffice or Latex.

I would prefer just Latex, but pretty much noone in my field (humanities) uses it, so collaboration is next to impossible.

(Had to reformat approx 300 pages from .tex to .doc recently. Took me several days to do it, even after I converted tex to odt with pandoc. Argh!)
