problems installing ubuntu

I recently got a new laptop (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...?EdpNo=3184129)

When I try to install Ubuntu (ubuntu-12.10-desktop-amd64.iso), the grub screen will come up. I choose the install option and then the screen becomes garbled.

I am fairly certain that is has to do with the NVIDIA card, although I'm suspicious that the iso is amd64 when my processor is intel (although that was the only 64 bit iso I saw).

At any rate, I tried the following () but nothing happens when I try to do what it suggests i.e. it still goes to the garbled screen.

Anybody have any suggestions as to how I can get ubuntu on here?

The architecture is correct, IF you want to go 64 bit. AMD, in this case, has nothing to do with the company that manufactures the processors.

With respect to the garbled screen, I agree that it is possibly a graphics card issue. See here:

Try the workarounds and see if you can get it to run the liveCD correct. On a new machine, I would always try the live version first, just to be sure that there are no issues and your hardware is recognized.

Live cd does the same thing, although a Fedora live cd works. I'd prefer to use Ubuntu over Fedora though.
