I have been unable to print to an HP Deskjet D2660 that I have connected to my Mac ever since I started using the 64 bit Ubuntu (starting with Natty, IIRC). Previously, this printer worked just fine with 32 bit Ubuntu versions.
The Mac is running OS X 10.7.5 'Lion' and the current HP drivers from Apple are installed. Printing from the Mac works OK, but the only way I have to print from Linux is to either:
(a) move the document to the Mac, and hope there's a compatible app to open and print it with; or
(b) print to PDF in Linux, move the PDF to the Mac, open in Acrobat or Preview and print.
Hosting the printer on my Linux box is not an option, because I need to have the printer available when the Linux box isn't running.
