Question 11.04 and 12.04 hang on startup when nfs server is not available

    hi guys
I'm relatively new to ubuntu and even linux, so please forgive me any stupid questions
although i found a lot of other posts similar to my problem, I still feel like I don't have the correct answer.
my problem is that on both versions of ubuntu (11.04 and 12.04) my system stops booting if the nfs server which I configured in the fstab file's not found (e.g. because the network connection is down). In my opinion the system should (at least after the timeout) continue to boot...but it won't. It is stuck on the purbple screen. I have to either comment out the line in the fstab file or add the option noauto to the line (which makes me manually mount the share).
is this behaviour intentional or is this (still) a bug?
    thank you for your feedback.
    regards,
    aleriorn
