how to use .local/share (just made dash load in less than a second)

    Hi,

I don't think I am doing this right so please could someone help?

I have taken the folder "/usr/share/unity-2d"

    and made a copy in

    "~/.local/share/"

then tweaked a few of the files to my liking. hoping that these would somehow override the 'default files' for my user.

is there something wrong with my approach? I am sure this is what I did last time.

    Thank youfor reading.

    ubuntu 12.04

ps. if you are interested in what I am doing.

I have decided to lower the blur on the dash to 1px as it makes it load almost instantly rather than 5-8 seconds. I am also making it much darker so it becomes easy to read still. i was just reminded today why I love Ubuntu and unity and that is they can easily be edited.

    Re: how to use .local/share

I just finished making modifications to the unity-2d folder and now i can make it load in less than a second which is a much better improvement to the 5-8 seconds I had before.

I hope that this solution will find its way to people also having this problem with unity on slower computers.

    - removed blur
    - changed sheen image to a darker version

It still looks very nice, yet has good performance on older hardware.
