Ethernet Lights Not On. No internet

Hello,

Its been a long time since I've since ive used ubuntu. 12.04 i believe. Just installed 12.10. Mostly every is okay except I have no internet connection. Status lights on the ethernet port are not on at all. I've plugged in two ways on success. Modem->Router-> PC and Modem->PC. Below are my PC stats. What should I do?

Motherboard: MSI P67A
Ethernet port: 1 onboard

First, check for a hardware problem. Cables can be pinched or gnawed, hardware can die.

Does the ethernet cable work between a different router port and a different machine?
Does the router port work with a different cable and differetn machine?
Does the computer port work with a different cable?

Once you have successfully proven a good router port and good cable, then it's time to look for less-common solutions.
