    Is android all that good?

Like i just said is android all that well and good? I believe not it can handle angry birds but came out in 2009 this aint that long ago but i think we should build a true Linux smartphone OS get all the power of the kernel after all they can use DSL probably so why don't we? and lets get a new UI all those apps don't work that well the way they are displayed lets see dose any one have the same thinking track as me? I don't make OSes and can only do basics in Ruby so if you think like me post here this might take awhile two years maybe? but i think we need 3 things
    1. speed
    2. stability
    3. not too resource hungry
this might work it could fail first all we need is a kernel that works on phones and works well
then lets get complex but just post ideas here this is to inspire not to develop

I have a Galaxy S3 which I replaced my iPhone 4 with and a ASUS Nexus 7 which replace my iPad3. They are both awesome bits of kit, the only complaint I have is Samsung is painfully slow at releasing OS updates.

I am currently waiting for the Nexus 10 to arrive here in NZ and I will get that .

I have the Motorola RAZR (first release.) Yes, it does crash more often than an iphone, but it is considerably more customizable than apple. It's the happiest I've been with a smart phone.

I have the Google Nexus (original) and have no apps that dont work, it is fast, stable and resources are fine.

Do you have an example of something that doesnt work in Android or something it cant do that I need ?

There is nothing so far in like 2 years or more that this phone and Android (currently running Gingerbread) that it cant do for me at least

I was thinking that if your tablet did everything that your laptop did would have laptop, and do you think that android can do that I think we need something more powerful for that Linux is good for this you could try to port over DSL maybe?

port over DSL ? we have 4g here, it is faster than some peoples DSL connection.

I am in fibre so blows it away of course but high speed connectivity is already ported to the cell networks. it is not an android specific thing though.

I have 2 laptops and they do the same as my desktop machine but on a smaller screen. My phone is a phone and does everything it needs to as well as a lot more.

personally yes i think android is good in that it is fit for purpose like anything really. everyones mileage varies.

Re: Is android all that good?

    YES!!!

    Android is GREAT.

Just got a Galaxy S3 a couple months ago.

Before that, I had an iPhone, for as long as the iPhone existed.

My wife has always had Android.

When I first got my GS3, I was up all night bugging her.

Me - "Oh my god, I can do this!"
Wife - "You could not do that before?"
    Me - "No.. "

That conversation repeated itself several times throughout the night.

    I am so ashamed.
Its as if I spent the last 7 years in an iCave.

Don't get me wrong, the iPhone is pretty great.
But iOS? Well, its stable, I guess.
And the iPhone as never undergone any significant changes.
The iPhone 5 is exactly the same as the iPhone 1.
(Just a bit faster, and a wider screen)

Oh, and FINALLY it is 4G.

Innovation only works if you keep doing it.

    Get with the times Apple.

Thumbs down Re: Is android all that good?

I currently have a (now outdated) HTC Evo 4G and I looove Android (compared to Apple's iCrap). Sure, I want (and probably need) to upgrade the HW, but I'd like to hang on to it as long as I can - at least until Ubuntu for Android (preferably in HD-quality).

I made mention in another thread how interesting (for example) it might be to have a beefed-up ASUS Padfone running Ubuntu. Right now, I'm hoping that if I put the idea into enough heads, it'll get some attention. LOL

Yes, Adroid is FAR better in flexibility and functionality. Apple is a great walled garden if you don't care about either or those things.

    Welcome to freedom.
