    checking laptop damage

I know this sounds stupid, so apologies in advance.

I have Ubuntu 10.04 installed on an old Compaq Presario 2100 (will be upgrading when I get the time). Someone tickled me, and I flailed around and knocked the laptop to the floor. It was on an upside-down V position, if that's going to be important. It seemed to work fine - it was on the log-in screen before it fell, but I was able to log in (it didn't power off) and the one or two Office Writer files (have a lot here) I tried opening did work. I shut down and booted it, successfully, and was able to open another one or two Office Writer files.

Is there any way to check what damage the fall caused, if there was any? I've been using Ubuntu for a while but I'm way below techie level.

Sorry if I sound angry. I, uh, still kinda am.

None as of yet. At least I didn't have problems starting, logging in, and opening the few files I'd already mentioned. Did I get lucky, or should I keep an eye (whatever my non-techie eye can pick up, anyway) on it over the next few days/weeks/etc, and if so, what should I keep an eye on?

    Re: checking laptop damage

From my experience, if there is physical damage, the product...

    1-Does not boot.

    2-Has missing data.

    3-Catches on fire....(just kidding)...maybe.

    Re: checking laptop damage

What kind of missing data? Is there a way to check? If it's personal files and not system files (or anything else), which I can't really check (going through everything when I don't know how many there should be anyway O.o), is replacing with copies from a flash drive enough?
