    Movable Indicators

I know this is probably intentionally not possible but Unity really should allow at least for 3rd party tools to (re)arrange and turn on/off individual indicator exactly as user wants.

    Re: Movable Indicators

Why do you think that there is the intention to prevent developers of third party tools doing this?

Ubuntu is open source. Developers have access to the Unity and app-indicator source code. I have Psensor installed and that has an app-indicator. More than a year ago the developers of apps that went into the top panel were encouraged to integrate their apps into Unity. The code is not secret.

It is a machine. It is more stupid than we are. It will not stop us from doing stupid things.

AFAIK it was decided default indicators should not be movable/configurable.

I am not talking about forking Unity and having PPA for example but i am talking about built in support by default. Tools like Ubuntu Tweak or MyUnity could then add GUI support for default Unity and not for fork of it.

Now when Unity is quite stable and feature rich i think it makes sense to start "opening" parts of Unity to users/developers like latest addition "Sync-Indicator" to not just have Ubuntu One service provider but to be able to add 3rd party service providers easily and yes give the option to the user to rearrange and turn on/off individual indicator.

I am talking about default Unity and built in support (API) not some 3rd party hobby project.

Moreover, the handy bluetooth indicator has been aligned to the latest desktop trends, gaining a toggle-visibility functionality via gsettings, allowing users to show/hide the indicator on the Unity panel.
Nice. This should be standard feature every indicator would support and then there is the question of positioning them freely.
