I installed the latest 3.7 rc 7 and now I got this thing on bootup called the MP BIOS bug .. but it still boots into Unity , runs ok , will not let me set backgrounds and is much slower.

Warnings for New Beta Testers& Helpful Terminal Commands:
My apologies for drifting off topic a little: Not sure that you should really turn this off. Dynamic frequency scaling adjusts the frequency of your processor according to the load currently placed on it and is a cpu feature rather than a bug. This conserves power and reduces the amount of heat generated and is particularly important for a laptop, and this particular chip is designed for laptops. I have noticed in the past that some utilities quote the lower cpu figure rather than the upper.
You can spend as much time as you want adjusting the figures, putting 'steps' in etc but best to use the feature rather than simply turn it off particularly on a laptop.
You think that's air you're breathing now?
Thanks for your reply. It is an Acer Aspire 5253 amd64 on Kernel 3.7, and benchmarks are running like they did at 1600 mHz, I presumed something in raring was making a mistake in posting 800 mHz. Now this isn't a showstopper so I'll leave it at that.
BTW, this entry is from an IBM Thinkpad, and cat /proc/cpuinfo shows
model name : Intel(R) Pentium(R) M processor 1500MHz
stepping : 5
microcode : 0x7
cpu MHz : 600.000
Now that's way off topic since it's running i386.
I did not notice that there was a laptop involved in this question. Mea culpa. In that case You're right and my effort to clear what does „dynamic frequency scaling“ mean and explain how to turn it off is (largely) off-topic... I even do not remember that it was mentioned that laptop is what we were talking about... @jerryamos has (I think) more machines involved in this talk than Jerry Pournelle (same name, intentionally) had in his columns...![]()
Here is the RR kernel 3.7 rc 8
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/raring/...nux/3.7.0-5.13
I've been using it, since last night, and haven't had any problems (Intel chipset).

Here problem with sempron x3, no problem with AMD64x2
I updated from quantal and as long as I work with 3.5 no problem.
livecd and hdd stopped after USB detection and the only way of rebooting is too shut down with power button.
Any ideas ?
I think I got this kind of problem with ubuntu 10 intel core 2 few years ago
Crucial bug !
remove the "quiet splash" options from /etc/default/grub then run:
you will see the warnings/errors at boot time to digg around. Maybe update pciids & usbids:Code:sudo update-grub
and/or try with boot option like noacpi or irqpoll or some othersCode:sudo update-pciids && update-usbids
( google around "ubuntu boot option" )
