    Good...for you?

Use whatever works. I see this becoming a flamewar sometime soon.

But what are you going to do on 30th April next year when support for 10.04 ceases?

Ubuntu 12.04 has a pretty decent classic session (gnome-panel) I believe it is the best Ubuntu yet. ALso, it's supported for 5 long years.

I just replaced the laces on my favourite trainers. Even though the shoes are old, they're comfy. Same same, innit?

I use ubuntu 10.04 on my Old Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0 Ghz I am using the macbuntu theme which makes me feel like I have a mac,Because I cannot afford a new one.
Also I have the hard drive split up so I can run Ubuntu 12.04 and 12.10 on it.

Also I wish I could afford an solidstate drive but those things are still way overpriced.

You could just install Mate over 12.04 and have your Gnome 2.xish desktop and/or use Linux Mint w/Mate.

well updates for kernel part are still going to come for 2 more years (server LTS had 5 year support even before). just updates for progammes and bugfixes not anymore. but they are not coming in anyway.
Read the easy to understand, lots of pics Ubuntu manual.

Since noone has mentioned this yet, I have to chip in the classical "if you don't like Unity, have you tried Xubuntu?'
Bringing old hardware back to life. About problems due to upgrading.
