12.10 installation FDE password bug
On installing Lubuntu 12.10 I selected full disk encryption and was asked for a password. The password quality indicator on the right went from short to weak to fair to strong and then, as I typed an open bracket and another character, back to short --- despite showing about 20 masked characters at that point.
I ignored it, but when the install finish I couldn't get my password to work. This might be a coincidence, but I think the first issue here is definitely a bug.

The quality of your password should have no effect. I checked for a bug on launchpad and couldn't find one, but that doesn't mean that there isn't one already.

Re: 12.10 installation FDE password bug
You're right about the second part - I suspect the problem is to do with key maps. For instance I'm installing in a VirtualBox guest and I need to select US-Dvorak manually - if I do the auto-detect it thinks I'm using UK English. So I'm used to problems like that.
But I think there's got to be a bug in the install-time password quality checker for full disk encryption.

Go ahead and file a bug report with launchpad.
