Will deleting encrypted files effect the system?

My " .private " folder has encrypted data which I didn't do myself. I would like to know what kind of files are safe to delete. Out of 36 GB, it is eating up 25 GB. Therefore, I would like to free some space.

I'm just wondering whether deleting all the files would have any adverse effect on the system. I'm using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS.

I'm not sure in which section, I should have post this. My apology; and also thanks in advance.
