installing problem?

Hello All,
Since installing ubuntu I have been trying to install some of the program that I need to use. The problem is when I go to run them an error come up. I use package installer to install all my programs.
Also I am still learning how to use the terminal so I could do it from there. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am trying to installing downverter. It is the YouTube down loader.
It come up with a bad command error. This was not part of the you-tube video that is on the web site.

I have also been trying to installing themes. I did try to installing some games. By the way thing look after the install it has worked. it is only when you go and try to run the programme that you find it does not work. I have had to fix a duel core computer due to the fact that I used 49gig and did very little to get there. I have restore it to window for now. But still having trouble with it. I am using ubuntu 12.10. I have just installed gnome-shell and when to dash to see if I could find it. The software centre said that it is install but can not find it. this is the same with other programs that I have try to install. they go missing.
