Just installed Netflix Desktop on my 64-bit system. Same problem. Had to install Wine 1.4 before it would work. Unless I installed Wine, the Netflix Desktop config had no place to install Firefox.
A bug exists which will be fixed if your using ext3 filesystem

You need to edit the /usr/bin/netflix-desktop file. Line 32 is checking the wrong variable. It should be ${MTABXATTR} NOT ${MTABEXT} It's a bug.

It's working on my netbook with no modifications but it's too choppy to be of any use
Checking it's system specs I just realized I accidentally installed 64 bit 12.10 instead of 32 bit 12.04 on it. haha, I'll have to fix that. Seems to be cpu bound, it does work nativly on windows, I'm guessing there's some wine slowdown.
