    Wired network stopped working 12.04

    Hi all,

This morning I unplugged and moved my router. When I booted it up again, I couldn't connect to the wired network from my desktop, which doesn't have wireless. I have tried several of the suggestions on other threads in the forums, but met with no success. Here is some further information:-

I have tried rebooting both the router and the PC, adding the lines
    Code:
    auto eth0
    iface eth0 inet dhcp
to /etc/network/interface file, but with no joy. I have dual-boot setup with Windows 7, which hasn't been booted for months. I just tested the connection via Windows, and I get the following error:--
'Local Area Connection' doesn't have a valid IP configuration
If any further information is required please let me know.

    Thanks in advance,

Yes. LEDs light up when it's plugged in. Tried other ports on the router too.

Re: Wired network stopped working 12.04

Is this the only machine plugged into the router? Are there any wireless connections? Do you know the IP address of the router? For most routers it's usually 192.168.1.1. If you know it, try pinging the router (ping 192.168.1.1). Are the lights on the front of the router blinking? While it was disconnected, did the dog pee on the router? Sorry for so many questions.

Re: Wired network stopped working 12.04

Pinging won't work without an IP address for eth0...
You should be able to set one up - either via Network Manager (preferred) or /etc/network/interfaces.
(NM and /etc/network/interfaces don't play nicely together.)
