Welcome to Adventure!! Would you like instructions?
    yes

Somewhere nearby is Colossal Cave, where others have found fortunes in
treasure and gold, though it is rumored that some who enter are never
seen again. Magic is said to work in the cave. I will be your eyes
and hands. Direct me with commands of 1 or 2 words. I should warn
you that I look at only the first five letters of each word, so you'll
have to enter "northeast" as "ne" to distinguish it from "north".
(Should you get stuck, type "help" for some general hints. For
information on how to end your adventure, etc., type "info".)

This program was originally developed by Will Crowther. Most of the
features of the current program were added by Don Woods. Address
complaints about the UNIX version to Jim Gillogly (jim@rand.org).

You are standing at the end of a road before a small brick building.
Around you is a forest. A small stream flows out of the building and
    down a gully.
To play it install the bsdgames package.

ScummVM should allow you to play countless classic Adventure games on your Linux machine, including some Space Quest but also stuff like Monkey Island and Broken Sword (you need the old files though). Check the compatibility page for a full list.

If you go to the download page, you can also get a couple of freeware adventure games that run in ScummVM. I'd recommend Flight of the Amazon Queen and Beneath a Steel Sky.

Check out Out of Order as well. It's awesome.

Out of Order is good, but I think you can only run it on Linux via Wine.

No, the engine behind has been ported to Linux. You can even create your own adventure games with it.

    I would recommend you:

    Flight of the Amazon Queen
Monkey Island 1,2 (I am not sure about part 3)

In order to play these games you will have to install ScummVM.

    Regards.

Beneath a Steel Sky and Flight of the Amazon Queen are in the software centre. So, when you install them, ScummVM will be installed alongside them automatically.
