A non-steam alternative to Spiral Knights?

I loooooved spiral knights. All the of the graphics and stuff were cute. I loved how it was such a beautifully made game but it was also an MMORPG. (I love the genre) But i dont use steam because my internet is a bit slow and when i use steam it makes my online games lag. Is there a non steam alternative to Spiral Knights? Or even better can spiral knights be played without steam anyway??

You could check out Desura. It's a game client like Steam that has an integrated store and everything, kinda near. It also lets you get free demos and stuff. It has some good games in there, not quite as many as Steam, but it has some decent stuff.

I bit the bullet and downloaded steam anyways. And was happy to find out i don't lag anymore. Quite the oppostite actually. I'll try desura anyway. Thanks
