It looks like the command should actually be:

service mysql status

whaddup CharlesA? being more grey than anything, i guess my only question would be other than wireshark, nmap,etc.. what are some good tools to use for defense as well? i recently installed metasploit latest community edtion, through the commandline(that was fun,btw) my only gripe is that i have to start it from the cmndline, and there is no icon for it on my launcher that blows big time... any advice on either of these issues?

In any case, I've done this ^ if I have a program that only launches via command line. Works fine.

What's so hard about typing ten characters to launch it?

i never said anything about it being difficult to type sudo ./msfconsole... i just greatly appreciate my shortcuts... thats all.
