I copied the command. Here's what it said.

    bigjoey@bigjoey-Inspiron-5720:~$ sudo apt-get install linux-headers-generic build-essential dkms
    [sudo] password for bigjoey:

dkms is already the newest version.
build-essential is already the newest version.

Just restart your system and the as it worked before and then choose the boot option, but the most probably in the first click it does not pick the wifi drivers. so you can use Bardco,'s BCM4311, BCM 4312,BCM 4313, BCM 4321 BCM 4324 Base hardware.

How would I use this hardware? Sorry about the beginner questions. I just want to make sure I'm doing everything right.

Indeed, he seems to know his stuff. The first thing he told me is allowing me to at least use the internet with the cable hooked up. (Or at least I think it helped.) Either way, I can't thank him enough.

Re: Wifi Problem with Dell Inspiron Laptop

Hi, PLEASE read the above post on how to download the wireless.deb package
    *** BEFORE*** you continue.
when the wireless.deb file has been correctly loaded..
copy and paste the following commands into a terminal ctrl/alt/t

    Code:
    cd Desktop
your terminal prompt should now look like this

    bigjoey@bigjoey-Inspiron-5720:~/Desktop$

    at the /Desktop$ prompt....enter

    Code:
    sudo dpkg -i wireless*.deb
wait for the package to load

*********IF it loads with NO errors ************

detach your ethernet cable and enter..

    Code:
    sudo reboot
This should activate your wireless card.

you may have to configure your router
    and the Ubuntu wireless settings.

if you get stuck, plug back in the ethernet
cable and post what issues you are having.

    thanks.

Re: Wifi Problem with Dell Inspiron Laptop

    @ChessMasterJoe and @Hadaka

The only help I am offering here is to supply the correct file.
I will leave the commands for Hadaka to supply.
The file is attached to this post.

The Forum would not allow the original file.

    It should be here. http://ubuntuone.com/3AGkEjyvcbhqnyhz9zpHBi
