Joining a domain

i installed Ubuntu 12.04 LTS onto a dell e310, installation was a little buggy (had to perm add the nomodeset), now im trying to get the ubuntu machine to join a windows domain in my home.

i run the command

sudo domainjoin-cli join <domain name> <username with admin rights>

after i get asked for the username's password i get the error

"Error: DNS_ERROR_BAD_PACKET [code 0x0000251e] A bad packet was received from a DNS server. Potentially the requested address does not exist."

i have installed likewise-open5,

any help is greatly appreciated.
