Angry [12.04] ASUS USB-N13 WiFi Adapter doesn't connect to the network

    Hi!

I've bought an ASUS N13 Adapter charmed by a shiny "Linux support" sign. Unfortunately I couldn't install it on my Ubuntu 11.10. I tried following the manual (with this fix), I tried installing drivers from ralinktech and doing many more things which I had found on various websites and topics. Nothing worked so I decided to upgrade my Ubuntu to 12.04 (I can connect to the Internet by USB tethering from mobile phone).

Now the adapter is visible, I see available networks, but I can't connect to them. I try to connect and I wait, wait, wait and eventually it just disconnects.

I've been looking for some solution for hours and haven't found anything. I'm aware that there are 2 kinds of N13 and I tried every solution I could find but I'm still getting nothing. Below I'm posting some outputs that might be useful.

Ole Chili is mystified by this. What have you tried in your 12.04 install so far?

I'm afraid I don't remember all of that... I've installed firmware from Asus CD, drivers from Ralinktech website and DKMS staff from here. I thought I had uninstalled everything but apparently not. Is there a way to restore a safe state? That would be a good place to start.

    Let's see:
    Code:
    modinfo rtl8192cu
    cat /etc/modules
Is the file you extracted still in your user directory so we can 'sudo make uninstall' if needed?

Which file do you mean? I've deleted extracted ASUS firmare and two kinds of Ralinktech drivers, but I 'sudo make uninstall'ed them first.

Re: [12.04] ASUS USB-N13 WiFi Adapter doesn't connect to the network

Sadly, I worked on a very similar case for several days and finally, by installing ndiswrapper and the Windows XP driver, got it to work. We could fumble and struggle for a few hundred posts or you can just jump to the conclusion here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.p...l8192cu&page=5

Although his device is different, the drivers I attached do cover your device:
    [ASUS.NTx86]
    %ASUS.DeviceDesc% = RTL8192cu.ndi, USB\VID_0B05&PID_17AB
    %ASUS-2.DeviceDesc% = RTL8192cu.ndi, USB\VID_0B05&PID_17BA
I suggest you proceed. The files I attached are correct for a 32-bit system. Is that what you have?
    Code:
    arch
32-bit will return i686. If you have a 64-bit system, I'll have to attach another file.

    I have a 64-bit version.

    EDIT:
    ndiswrapper -l
    Code:
    netrtwlanu : driver installed
    but dmesg | grep ndis
    Code:

    EDIT2:
I'm confused. 'sudo modprobe ndiswrapper' gives me.
    Code:

    Should it be that way?
    O, sorry. I haven't looked one post above <stupid>.

Here are the 64-bit files. Be sure you delete the 32-bit files completely.

Re: [12.04] ASUS USB-N13 WiFi Adapter doesn't connect to the network

I removed and blacklisted "rtl8192cu", removed an old netrtwlanu and installed new one. Then I've plugged my ASUS adapter in and... got a kernel panic:/

I rebooted and tried pugging in again and the kernel panicked again.

Reboot with the device removed and run and post:
    Code:
sudo cat /var/log/syslog | grep ndis
It may produce dozens of lines, so try to pick out the lines that illustrate the difficulty. Also make sure no competing driver is loading:
    Code:
    lsmod | grep -e rtl -e 80211
If there is sparse output at syslog, substitute syslog.1.
    Code:
sudo cat /var/log/syslog.1 | grep ndis
