I have used Kubuntu 10.04 for many years now without a problem. I received a message saying that Kubuntu 10.04 would go away as an LTS and that the new LTS would be 12.04. I installed 12.04 and subsequently 12.10 and have found both of these versions to be at best annoying. My question is: Is there a simple way of returning to a stable 10.04 version of Kubuntu without having to rebuild from a .iso file?
The following are details of my system:
ACER Aspire 5560-Sb256
Quad-Core
4 gb main memory
500 gb HDD
I use the 64 bit versions of Kubuntu.
Problems I've encountered with version 12 of kubuntu are:
1. Unstable boot up
12.04 required at least one power re-cycle before it would start
12.10 requires zero or more power re-cycles before it will start
Both 12.04 and 12.10 irradicately display a boot up menu
2. 12.04 seems to move more slowly as time goes by
3. 12.04/12.10 will not shut down. Please note that I have tried several of the "advertised" fixes for this problem and none of them have worked for me.
Note that I never experienced any of these problems with version 10.04
