    Envy laptop fan ALWAYS ON

Running an HP Envy 15 and latest version of Ubunutu (11). Have tried every tip I've found on forums (disabling fan always on in BIOS, installed lm-sensors, lwmcontrol doesn't seem to work with laptop). If I run "sensors" or "acpi -V" I get reasonable values, e.g.

    Battery 0: Full, 100%
Battery 0: design capacity 4182 mAh, last full capacity 4160 mAh = 99%
    Adapter 0: on-line
    Thermal 0: ok, 57.0 degrees C
Thermal 0: trip point 0 switches to mode hot at temperature 97.0 degrees C
Thermal 0: trip point 1 switches to mode passive at temperature 135.0 degrees C
    Cooling 0: LCD 4 of 10
    Cooling 1: LCD 4 of 10
    Cooling 2: Processor 0 of 10
    Cooling 3: Processor 0 of 10
    Cooling 4: Processor 0 of 10
    Cooling 5: Processor 0 of 10

but even though the temperature is nominal, the fans run full blast. I ran Ubuntu a few versions back without this problem so it's a bit disheartening, anyone with experience or suggestions?
