    problem with installing Celtx

    Hi guys,

I'm quite new to Ubuntu but I love its speed in comparison to windows...
I'm trying to install Celtx program.
I downloaded it, unpacked onto desktop and followed the instructions from thread http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1639175

when I double-click on Celtx icon, I can see that something is trying to mount as an app but it stops...it's unable to mount itself (I presume that's what's supposed to happen?)
I also can't seem to be able to create the launcher...

    HELP

Hi. Open a Terminal and go in the directory where you unpacked celtx, then type ./celtx and repost the output of the terminal.

So sorry... I'm not a native speaker... In the unpacked directory we should see an executable file called celtx (this is what I read in the page that you linked). To execute celtx we are supposed to double click on it. But to know what happens when we launch the program we have to run the executable from terminal and not by double clicking on it. To run a exectubla file called "name" we have to type in the terminal, once we have get in the directory where it is stored,

    Code:
    ./name
So: go in the unpacked directory and type "./ "followed by the name of the executable file. Repost the output of this action (I hope I was clear this time).

I'm not a native speaker myself so not to worry

I'm afraid I'm still not very clear how to install this damned thing...

this is what I get in the terminal

    user@user-OptiPlex-GX620:~$ /home/user/Desktop/celtx
    bash: /home/user/Desktop/celtx: Is a directory
    user@user-OptiPlex-GX620:~$ ./celtx
    bash: ./celtx: Is a directory
    user@user-OptiPlex-GX620:~$ /home/user/Desktop/celtx
    bash: /home/user/Desktop/celtx: Is a directory
    user@user-OptiPlex-GX620:~$ /home/user/Desktop/celtx: Is a directory
bash: /home/user/Desktop/celtx:: No such file or directory
    user@user-OptiPlex-GX620:~$ /home/user/Desktop/celtx/celtx
    bash: /home/user/Desktop/celtx/celtx: Permission denied
    user@user-OptiPlex-GX620:~$ /home/user/Desktop/celtx/.celtx
bash: /home/user/Desktop/celtx/.celtx: No such file or directory
    user@user-OptiPlex-GX620:~$

so...not sure what am I to do next...
it tells me 'Permission denied' or no such directory...

    I'm lost

    Re: problem with installing Celtx

Uhm... I suspect you do not know how to get into directories using the terminal... Is very easy (probably is harder to say how to do it than actually do it...). We have to use the command "cd" to go where we want in the filesytem. You said that you unpacked the celtx archive onto desktop. So:

    Code:
    cd Desktop/
in a terminal will put us into the desktop folder. You will notice the change of directory by the change of the string of the prompt. You can also type

    Code:
    ls
    to view the directory content.

Then, assuming that the unpacked celtx folder is called celtx (as I guess watching your reposts):

    Code:
    cd celtx/
to enter the directory. Remeber that everything in linux is case sensitive, so typing Celtx is different from typing celtx. As above the command ls will give to you the directory content. The executable files should be green coloured. If the executable is called celtx then we have to run

    Code:
    ./celtx
and the terminal will give to us information about the program launching.

As I'm not so good at explain myself, I'll do an example:

    Code:
    user@computer:~$ cd Desktop
    user@computer:~/Desktop$ ls
    AnalogHarmonizer.ZIP Folder SuperOctaver.ZIP
    EH-Guitar-Synth.ZIP Guitar Synth.pdf
You see: there is a directory called Folder, then:

    Code:
    user@computer:~/Desktop$ cd Folder/
    user@computer:~/Desktop/Folder$ ls
    Script.h
    user@computer:~/Desktop/Folder$ ./Script.h
If you need help type man followed by the command name, for example:

    Code:
    man ls

    Re: problem with installing Celtx

Thank you for understanding my lack of ubuntu knowledge
So, I typed everything according to your notes and unfortunately, it still tells me 'permission denied'...
perhaps I'm not the system dmin? but when I go to users, it tells me I AM the system administrator...confusing as hell

    user@user-OptiPlex-GX620:~$ cd Desktop/
    user@user-OptiPlex-GX620:~/Desktop$ ls
    celtx libflashplayer.so readme.txt usr xfce4-session-logout.desktop
    user@user-OptiPlex-GX620:~/Desktop$ cd celtx/
    user@user-OptiPlex-GX620:~/Desktop/celtx$ ./celtx
    bash: ./celtx: Permission denied
    user@user-OptiPlex-GX620:~/Desktop/celtx$

    Re: problem with installing Celtx

    I also looked this up:
    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.p...mission+denied

and tried to change permissions just in case...

that's what I came up with:

    user@user-OptiPlex-GX620:~$ cd Desktop/
    user@user-OptiPlex-GX620:~/Desktop$ ls
    celtx libflashplayer.so readme.txt usr xfce4-session-logout.desktop
    user@user-OptiPlex-GX620:~/Desktop$ cd celtx/
    user@user-OptiPlex-GX620:~/Desktop/celtx$ ./celtx
    bash: ./celtx: Permission denied
    user@user-OptiPlex-GX620:~/Desktop/celtx$
    user@user-OptiPlex-GX620:~/Desktop/celtx$ sudo chown -R user:user celtx
    [sudo] password for user:
    user@user-OptiPlex-GX620:~/Desktop/celtx$ ./celtx
    bash: ./celtx: Permission denied
    user@user-OptiPlex-GX620:~/Desktop/celtx$

    permission is still denied... ;-(

Uhm... Interesting. Please, repost the output of this:

    Code:
    ls -l Desktop/celtx/
