Whats all the commotion about?

So 12.10 has bugs. I would expect anyone except an new user to know that a spanking new rollout will have bugs. They all have bugs. Hate unity? Well at least I can change my desktop and use something else. Try that with a nonlinux OS.

This is not a RANT but a Thank You! To all the men and women who have given of their time and talents to bring this wonderful OS to me the USER.

I have used Ubuntu since Hardy, 8.10 I believe. Each release has been nothing but an improvement over the last. I can find no faults. I have been able to do as much and more than I could with the old nonlinux OS. I won't even go into how much easier it is to make things work, it just does and if not answers are easier to find. All of this for what? Not one penny!

Kudo's to the men and women behind Ubuntu! Job well done!

It is truly crazy to think how much work goes into any distro release and so many just take it for granted... +1 and thanks from me too

I hate it when people scream "They're using us as beta testers!".

There are a large number of people who actually test the alphas and betas, and report bugs at each stage, and will tell you that the releases are very stable by the time they reach Release Candidate stage.

Because all the bugs relating to the machines that Ubuntu has been tested on, have been fixed. Developers don't know what will happen on computers that haven't been tested.

If more people did real beta testing, Ubuntu would be a lot less buggy on machines it hadn't been tested on.

i wonder if the non linux OS has an even better testing now and also since they are connected with manufacturers i believe that new hardware will be working well with it (again). at leats something they got right...

i was so happy with 12.04 as for the first time EVERYTHING worked perfectly and as it should. until about 2 months when updates screwed up the sound again. has not been fixed since. then the sleep&hibernation stopped working.
both reported to launchpad but i doubt it will ever be resolved.

have never experienced such a thing with non linux os. and it makes me sad for the linux. and for the people that tested it and resolved it during beta stages.

I had Windows going bust after a week due to updates wiping out boot sector, now thats my experience, I won't condemn Windows due to my own limited experience. Many other bugs creep up as well, again its a part of what is called HUMAN.

I think we should do just that, not waiting for manna to fall from the sky. After seeing what some guys had done in U+1, I moved to raring repos and made my 12.10 into 13.04, so if I get into trouble, I'd let the Ubuntu devs know about that, usually called a bug report.

I had no problems with 12.04 and 12.10 works quite nicely, now I shall be trying out 13.04. My computer sleeps only at night, so it is going to get lot of work.

They do a massive job, and my heartfelt thanks to them!

I think people need to realize that the LTS releases are built more for stability. The releases in between refine technology for the next LTS. That's not saying that the in between releases are not good. I love 12.04, it runs great on all my machines now.

I participated in the 12.10 development cycle and like the new features and refinements but 12.04 runs noticeably quicker on my hardware. I am sure I will participate in 13.04's development cycle too. I am looking forward to seeing the new icons they will be working on and I am sure there will be plenty more good things to see.

There was too much fuss about the shopping lens this time around but you have to look at it like this, it gets people talking about Ubuntu. All the commotion put Ubuntu in the spotlight and new features take time to refine. Many of the ideas that are being introduced are completely new, no one else has ever tried them. This is the kind of thinking it takes to get somewhere.

No one wants the same old thing, you have to give people a reason to try something different and Ubuntu is doing just that. I see more and more people trying Ubuntu because it is so different and that is exactly what they like about it.

That's exactly it!

Here is a screenshot of Ubuntu Studio 12.10 moved to 13.04 and with Gnome-shell. Notice the kernel, lowlatency.

12.10 was released few days ago, but this is going to be new everyday, bleeding edge.
