I hate it when people scream "They're using us as beta testers!".
There are a large number of people who actually test the alphas and betas, and report bugs at each stage, and will tell you that the releases are very stable by the time they reach Release Candidate stage.
Because all the bugs relating to the machines that Ubuntu has been tested on, have been fixed. Developers don't know what will happen on computers that haven't been tested.
If more people did real beta testing, Ubuntu would be a lot less buggy on machines it hadn't been tested on.
