    Best hardware for linux gaming

What is your guys opinion on the most efficient hardware for linux gaming as of right now. Which hardware has the most well supported drivers? I mean Motherboards, video cards, soundcards or anything else I should know.

I currently have a Asus sabertooth 990fx motherboard (AMD). I cant really say whether or not its working out well. My computer is not crashing so I guess that is a good sign.

My amd 7950 video card runs like ass. I cant begin to describe how poop this card is with linux.
I read that Nvida has very good open source drivers?
Currently have a Asus Essence stx sound card, can't complain, it works. Nothing special with linux though.

Are there any up to date compatability documentation I could read?

Actually this thread should be in hardware.. could someone move it for me?

I would not worry to much about the cpu & mb, the main thing you should look at is the gpu and stick with nvidia when it comes to linux.

no, not opensource, but better proprietary drivers.

to get more out of your card - make sure you have latest kernel and latest drivers. it might or might not work as good as nvidia in same price range. it depends how well certain chip is supported by AMD.

Yes, what he said. While AMD/ATI cards more or less rule under Windows, nVidia has always had better proprietary drivers, by a long shot. If it's in your price range(~$150-190), look at the new GeForce 750ti. I use a 650ti, which runs all my games very well, and the 750ti is twice as fast, while using half the power, not needing a separate power input the way the 650ti does, and it's quieter. It's next on my to-buy list.

SteamBox - look into what hardware they use, that may help.
