Drivers can be a real weakness in Linux distros, especially for special hardware like fingerprint readers. Laptop providers are known to required special drivers for their special hardware. If the device doesn't work right off, it could be very difficult to get drivers for it -- as these often have to be compiled from source code to bind with the kernel. Unlike with MS Windows, it's not a simple matter of sticking in a CD and running an installer.
And, as other have said, Windows drivers don't work in Linux.
