Software Centre takes a long time to start.

On my Android tablets and phones Google Play is very quickly to start. However on Ubuntu the Software Centre takes a long time to start. Why is Software Centre so much slower?

Do you have the latest hardware and a blindingly fast connection? That may help.

On the other hand, some people find their connections to Canonical sites routed through servers that seem to act as bottlenecks.

There's a thread in the Forum Feedback section that may help you see your "hops".
    Code:
    mtr ubuntuforums.org
but I don't know what to put in place of ubuntuforums.org to point to whatever the Software Center seems to connect to.

    I think ...

    I don't use it - I use synaptic.

It is always slow. The first thing I do after installing Ubuntu is sudo apt-get install synaptic. It is much better.
