Thanks.
XPS1710, CPU T7200 @2.00GHZ x 4 GiB RAM, 1900x1200,
Nvidia GeForce 7600 512 MB.
there is no mirc for linux.
use x-chat instead or any of the many alternative solutions (quassel and such).
Read the easy to understand, lots of pics Ubuntu manual.
Do i need antivirus/firewall in linux?
Full disk backup (newer kernel -> suitable for newer PC): Clonezilla
User friendly full disk backup: Rescuezilla
mIRC is an IRC (Internet Relay Chat) client for Windows. Why don't you try a native Linux alternative?
See: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/InternetRelayChat
If you really want to install mIRC you can use wine:

Mirc is a windows IRC Client.
There are many altnernatives on linux.
Check these out

- Xchat
- Konversation

I am gonna give Xchat IRC a try.

I believe that XCHAT irc support was dropped 2 years ago.
I'd like to know what is the IRC client that replaces xchat in the fondness of regular ubuntu IRC chat users?
Years ago I used IRC ("mirc") to get previews of new classical music releases. Is that still possible?
ubuntu user # 17477 , linux user # 454685
XChat is still alive and kicking although it has been a while between releases. Another solid choice is irssi and this soon to be defunct guide should provide a start:
[Howto] Setup irssi and join #ubuntu on Freenode

Mind you there is a perfectly acceptable web based client that can easily be used to join #ubuntuforums on Freenode:

Lots of choices!
You think that's air you're breathing now?
