login to desktop takes over 60 seconds to start

just did a fresh install of xubuntu 12.04.1 on my new acer timelinex 1830tz laptop
and after login it takes over 60 seconds to show the desktop..

that seems like forever.. how do i find out whats wrong..
the drive is not running.. its just sitting there for 60+ seconds

log out is much the same.. over 120 seconds..
then my user name is missing from the menu and i have to use "other"
to log in... and it takes even longer to start up

my home directoy is encrypted
and i had some issues get the bcm43222 wifi working
( i have to rmmod wl and modprobe wl after each boot)
im dual booting with windows 7


should i blow the whole thing off and start fresh
( which seems stupid since it is fresh)

i need to fix this.

Howdy. Good system specs. You may want to forum or google search to see if other users have had similar issues with your specific laptop.

My first thought was your wifi issue may not yet be fully resolved. What happens if you boot using a wired internet connection?

well i tried booting with the netwrok cable insalled
and it booted much much faster and seems to be working fine now,

since i will be internet less 90% of the time this laptop is in use..
im glad it seems to be fixed..

now to fix the wifi..

Glad some of your problems are solved. It's been my expereince that many Ubuntu users encounter problems with graphic drivers, sound cards and wifi.

If you can't figure out the wifi issue, create a new problem thread so others can help. Having poor wifi is a real bummer...hard to have a decent system without a good connection.
