    I change my mind!

Please help me. I downloaded Ubuntu without realizing what it really was and I don't like it. I'm not very computer savvy and my laptop is ancient so I no longer have a Windows CD to re-install and override Ubuntu.

How do I get my old Windows set up back!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Unless you used Wubi or installed Ubuntu alongside Windows, we can't help you.

May I inquire as to why not use Ubuntu instead of Windows?
As you said yourself, your laptop is "ancient" so running Linux might be a good idea since there is no need for antiviruses. If you still want to get to Windows, you will have to go and buy Windows again. Note if you still have your Windows Keys you may download the disk from the web, you won't be breaking the EULA in this way.

Are you sure windows is gone? Did you tell the Ubuntu installer to use the entire HDD?

you may prefer lubuntu or xubuntu
they are both light weight, but lubuntu is lighter

Enter this command in a terminal
    Code:
    sudo fdisk -l
Copy and paste the output of the command in this thread so we know if your Windows partition still exists.
Use whatever OS or desktop works for you. Dual boot or use VMs if you want. Backup your computer regularly, and definitely before upgrading, partitioning, or installing an OS.

No support requests by PM please.

out of curiosity: what's not to like ? it's a bit different yes, but I suspect it's more like Windows that Win8 will turn out

you have a "Dash" instead of a start menu

you have a "launcher" on the left side of the screen in place of a "task bar". I liked this new position so much better I changed my Windows system to have the task bar on the right.

with a 16:9 (1920x1080) screen -- this works better although it takes a little to get used to using the small icons ) .

    Classic mistake.
I've done that. Decided to just stay on Ubuntu, it was fine.
Now I have Lubuntu on it, as it's ancient as well and lubuntu is speedier.

With out a CD your really out of luck, I would suggest you try Lubuntu or Xubuntu before you bag it. You might not be savvy now but you can learn a lot, its not that bad once you learn your way around.

    Welcome to Linux.

And if you get stuck just ask...
