Klipper doesn't function across programs

Hello

My klipper doesn't allow me to copy text from one program to another. For example if I want to copy a url across from my browser into kate, I copy the text out of the url, then I right click and paste into kate and instead of pasting the url into kate the last thing I copied in kate is then repasted into kate.

Using right click copy, ctrl C both do not add anything to the clipboard.

Any help in solving this problem would be greatly appreciated.

When you copy the URL, are you using mark, right-click, copy?

I'm not sure what you mean by mark, right click copy. I should point out that the URL is just an example, no text from any part of any program is put into the clipboard when I copy it.

I mean "mark" in the sense of swiping the text you want to copy so that it's highlighted.

oh right I've never heard highlighting referred to as marking. Yes of course.
