    64 bit Ubuntu question

    Hi;
    I just installed UBUNTU 12.04.1 and have a quick question about the file name.

    The install file was named ubuntu-12.04.1-desktop-amd64.iso

    What does the amd part stand for in the name? Does it refer to the processor brand?

    I have an intel processor, should I have installed a different version?

    Thanks
    Sean

    Re: 64 bit Ubuntu question

    It's called amd64 because AMD first developed the 64-bit instruction set which all modern processors now use, both AMD and Intel.
