Does contraposition imply: install development version only to non-friends, a.k.a. enemies...
Bad joke (mine) aside, it seems that there is not enough warnings about development version even though there is one on every corner...

Unity (Dash, Indicators, Launcher, WebApps, Lenses) is pretty bleeding edge stuff. Where else in Userland can I install these?
They can't make this stuff work if they don't release it.

I am not experiencing the problems described. Awn's last build was in 2010 so perhaps the project has stagnated. MyUnity is another 3rd party application and hasn't been rewritten for 12.10. My beta experience has been much better on 12.10 than 12.04 in terms of reported problems. I did have to experiment with the nvidia drivers to find the best one for my hardware.

+1. I seem to remember MS was quoted as saying, can't find it now, that the in between releases were to get new stuff out there and test.

Anyone who doesn't want bleeding/cutting edge have the choice to stick with LTS.

AWN has been dropped from Ubuntu as it is unmaintained and no longer builds from source with current versions of vala.

Starting with Dapper Drake, for me Beta's have in general been pretty stable and close to release code. Not so with QQ Beta 2 and RC. I've got launchpad bugs out on QQ RC even. Looking at the sticky "..changes and updates.." there's a bunch of stuff dumped in I haven't tried yet.

And yes on my 3 test pc's netbook, notebook, tower I've re-installed updated 12.04.1 on other partitions. When I get frustrated with QQ I just boot 12.04.1 up to get some work done.
