Re: buy 32 bit or 64 bit

The basic difference between 32 bit and 64 bit systems is that 32 64 bit systems can process larger chunks of data at any time . What this translates into ( and I hope should answer your question ) is that 32 bit systems can only support upto 4 gigs of ram while 64 bit systems support larger ram quantities - e.g , the 8 gig laptops today are all shipped with 64 bit oses . In the end , your choice of system should be based on your ram requirement . And yes , the future is 64 bit .... and beyond

    Cheers

    64-bit all the way.

There is very little reason to go 32-bit. I think the only 32-bit cpus available are in the Intel Atom lineup but I could be wrong.

Software is often now only being made in 64-bit, so a 32-bit will not be able to run it.

    Another +1 for 64-bit.

There is nowadays absolutely no good reason to choose 32-bit over 64-bit.

64bit supports more RAM and has other advantages over 32bit.

    Moved to Recurring Discussions.

Performance better if you have over 3GB of RAM. Otherwise 32bit probably ok.
