Is this a DHCP problem?

hope someone can help on this.

I have lost internet access after installing latest batch of updates on 12.04.
My laptop sees my wireless router OK.

ping returns 'Unknown Host' for external sites.
ping local devices returns '100% packet loss'.
PING 127.0.0.1 gives '0% packet loss'

Is this a DHCP problem and how can I check?

if it is a dual boot you can save the file directly to your windows desktop, that said
i assume you are using wireless, try hardwire
have you tried to connect to your wifi?
edit connections with nm-connection-editor

Tried wired direct to router. This allows ping to reach local devices with no packet loss. External sites return

that is the hardwire device are you using a usb for wireless? if so lsusb

No it's not USB. Its my laptop card.
I plugged my laptop into the wireless router with ethernet cable.

Thanks for your time so far.

I think that maybe it is not a DCHP problem. I switched off wireless card and the ethernet to router works fine. No packet losses on pings and browser gets to web sites OK.
It seems that my laptop wireless card is hogging the traffic. Is it constantly trying to get connection and failing?

Any ideas?

not without knowing the chipset of the wifi card
if you can post the full output of lspci -vv that would be useful
now that you have a way to connect that should be easy to do
