    Quantal kernel news

This just show up in my inbox:

    Hi All,

Now that we are past the Ubuntu Quantal Quetzal 12.10 Kernel Freeze, the Ubuntu Kernel Team felt this would be an appropriate time to officially confirm and announce that the Ubuntu 12.10 kernel will be based on the upstream v3.5 Linux kernel [1]. Going forward, we'll continue to update the Ubuntu 12.10 kernel with the latest upstream v3.5.y Linux stable kernel releases. For those seeking the specific details of all the changes provided in the Ubuntu 12.10 kernel, please refer to the ubuntu-quantal git repository [2]. We've also categorized the Ubuntu specific changes in our QKernelDeltaReview wiki for anyone interested [3].

    Thanks,
    The Ubuntu Kernel Team

    easy enough to upgrade
i even made a short script to do it
edit: attachment 2 is the working one, it fixes a 404 error

I'm using 3.6.1 too, and it seems solid and snappy.

    Re: Quantal kernel news

There is a problem with the 3.5 kernel. Here is the link https://lkml.org/lkml/2012/8/20/675

And since 3.6.1 is out 4 days ago we got the unsupported kenel in 12.10, so it's a canonical fail.

That page doesn't mention anything wrong with kernel 3.5.

It only lists the support plan for kernel 3.4, 3.5 and 3.6.

Yeah I read this. But I don't think Canonical failed. They will provide support for the 3.5 kernel the next 18 months.

    Re: Quantal kernel news

I guess 12.10 testing cycle is going to be as much a disaster for me as quantal was . The 3.5 kernel really hates my box .

OOPS misread the OP , too early . disregard , I confused 12.10 with the upcomming 13.04 .

    @ pqwoerituytrueiwoq

Thanks for that script. I was wondering how to install 3.6.

    Regards.
It is a machine. It is more stupid than we are. It will not stop us from doing stupid things.
