XFCE, when I drag and drop a file from the desktop to thunar, it copies, not moves

Hello. I have run into a bit of an issue with Thunar. If I have, lets say a text file on my desktop, and I open Thunar, and drag and drop it into my home folder, it will copy the text file. I need it to move the text file. I didn't have a problem with this in GNOME using nautilus, is there any way to fix this?

    Thanks in advance

I've not used Thunar specifically. But it is fairly consistent across most file managers that if you hold down the Shift key whilst dragging/dropping a file it will be moved rather than copied.

    Hope that helps.

Oh wow, thanks! I guess I can use that for now until I find a more permanent fix.

Right click on the file and quickly drag (Takes a bit of practice at first to avoid the normal right click context menu). Place over desired new location and thunar will offer choices, including move

In the last 20 years using unix and Linux, I'm going to tell you that in my experience moving is the norm, not copying. I can count on one hand how many times I've encountered this annoyance.

The question still stands, how does one switch this behavior?
