when i watch a video in full screen, i can't see the video controlls at the bottom

i'm using ubuntu 12.04 in gnome classic mode and when i go to a website like youtube and watch a video, when i go to fullscreen mode, the play buttons and other buttons or not on my screen, they are off screen and i can't pause the video, i have to press esc. is it something to do with my video card? i have an hd radeon 6870. how can i fix this?
    thanks for the help.

also if i log in in unity, i don't get this problem. also in gnome classic if i set the panels to auto hide i can pause the video and stuff but thats not what i want because having the panel auto hide is a pain in my opinion, i really hate it. thanks again for any help.
