ubuntu 12.04

I have been using ubuntu for just over 3 months now, from the start I wanted to
give it an honest trial as this is my first experience with a linux system. A one
word summation of my experience to date would be: disappointing. I don't want to elaborate much and risk being accused of ubuntu bashing, {again}.
One bright spot is the help and support of the ubuntu community, thanks to all.

Have you posted your problems to this forum? I have used linux on x86 in one form or another for over 20 years. I highly recommend it to all windows users as a way to reduce cost. I find ubuntu very friendly once you get things setup.

Can i ask you background with unix operating systems? shells such as BASH or KSH?

You may need to get a simple book to explain some of the commands that are used in ubuntu (linux). I would look for a guide showing the windows / dos comparative application / command to ubuntu (linux) application / command. I will be looking for this for a friends high school student as i am building her a laptop with ubuntu 12.04 LTS.
