I've just taken delivery of a supposedly new IDE 160gb WD hard drive from amazon. Having had a similar hard drive from one of Amazon's dealers go belly up on me after only 5 weeks (a supposely new generic drive, which arrived as a WD one, and, according to WD, was no longer under warranty), I decided to test this new one first. In general it appeared to be sound, BUT when I looked at the data from Gsmar- does that really say 22998 power on hours? Does that mean what I think it means? That my advertised as new drive has already been on for nearly 3 years?
I tried to register it with WD but they advised the warranty expired 11.07.2011
