    Post Battery not present, AC Adapter not plugged in

    Hi, I'm wondering if someone can help me with this problem.

    On Ubuntu 12.04 (32 bit) I installed kde-plasma a couple of days ago because I wasn't happy with Gnome/Unity. After adjusting the system tray settings so that it always shows the battery status, this worked fine for a couple of days.

    However, since I logged in this morning, the battery icon is an empty battery without a plug and with a red cross in front of it. When I click it, the status reads "Battery: Not present. AC Adapter: Not plugged in." (I have rebooted a couple of times but that's not fixed the problem.)

    I searched for some answers online, and in Terminal/Konsole tried

    and the - very short - reply to this reads:

    This is the reason why I'm starting this thread: I haven't come across it in any other forums/guides.

    The battery definitely works because I can unplug it and the notebook keeps running, and the power supply definitely works because.. well I'm still online, aren't I?

    Please note I've been using Linux/Ubuntu for only 1.5 months and I still find myself confused with certain terms. I'm eager to learn though!

    Can anyone help me?

    No , battery present. Weird.

    Try to reset you BIOS. I mean "Restore Defaults" settings.

    Also a good point would be the output of dmesg.

    Just to be sure, do you mean I should shut down my computer, turn it on, go to BIOS and search for "Restore Default" there? (And, again to be absolutely sure, by that I won't lose any data?)
    (Sorry, I just want to be careful - don't really know what I'm doing half the time)

    Yes , that I mean. I think is an F key , you should see it as option in BIOS config page.

    Restore Defaults is a safe option , nothing to do with OS = data. It will restore the default (factory settings) in you BIOS , in case that some option is responsible for the battery's fault.

    I wonder what sdb could be, because I my HDD is not partitioned and there are no external discs connected. (Could it be my wireless-mouse-USB? The mouse works fine)

    I wonder the same thing . [sdb] usually refers to scsi device (HDD , or maybe usb stick , card reader or any external device connected) .

    Maybe is this a bug ?

    The only connected device is my wireless-mouse-USB: no SDcard in the slot, 2 free (unused) USB-slots, no cd-rom in its drive.
