Yes they are, but there is a new release every two years.

One thing I forgot to add in my previous post, is that Quantal won't be feature complete when it is released, so we can look forward to a fun time in the support forums for the next 6 months.

Any version that uses ubiquity to install, will be missing some vital parts, like raid install, and not sure how well the LVM install works either.

    Hi,
can I ask what is the reason for Fresh install? So if you have a beta version and keep on doing the updates, shouldn't you end up with the software in your machine as the one coming from a fresh install?
I am just trying to understand.

Because there is such a massive amount of updates during the alpha and beta stages and a lot of major feature changes and fixing of debian unstable packages that are used in a new version of ubuntu, certain things can get buggy which you wouldn't likely have when installing after the final is released...

While mine has been running pretty well, i would just feel better to a clean install as it may knock out a few minor problems i have been having...

I think you are more prone to problems during the testing and updating stages which you avoid a lot of when installing the final release..so it seems like a prudent move to make..

B2 is very (!) buggy on my 3 test pc's compared to B1. All kinds of wierd happenings like "Q Search Applications" covering up 3/4 of screen and random switching between windows. Devil of a time even getting an ubuntu-bug unity sent.

After a bunch of updates the disk space used keeps growing in spite of all my attempts to clean, remove, etc.

New install and disk space trimmed down again. Presumption, updates keep accumulating garbage.

Besides, install is frequently worth a few new bugs....

I believe he's emphasizing the word 'very.' As in, Beta 2 is very buggy.
